Risk Management
Risk is often an inherent part of the activities we do in the outdoors. During the two year program there were numerous occasions to assess risk in the field or academically through case studies. Developing systematic processes to identify hazards, prevent, control and mitigate the risks became second nature.
An example of my risk management knowledge and abilities is an Emergency Response Plan and Field Guide I developed for a fictitious firm called River’s Edge Cabins. This report is a good example of both the quality of my work and my ability to assess risk and exposure and develop a framework to respond and recover in a methodical and efficient manner. It includes consideration of employment and industry standards, clients and trip plans and places emergency response in the context of operational risk management.
I also created a flowchart to map the waiver delivery process,an important component of the legal aspect of outdoor adventure and risk management. The reason I like my model is that in addition to the waiver delivery steps, it provides direction on best practices and comments on the legal implications of poor delivery, essentially providing the framework for understanding why waivers must be executed in the stated manner. These are steps every company should follow to implement their waiver.
