Environmental Awareness and Sustainability
This is a photo of me in Costa Rica in February 2017 while on a trip for a rain forest ecology and sustainability course. My peers and I planted 5 or 6 varieties of trees to add biodiversity to a ridge line and assist with the reforestation of land that had historically been cleared for farming. The goal of the project was to protect and conserve the local habitat.
Participating in a venture like this helped reinforce the importance of a healthy natural environment. Our actions supported the principles of sustainability by supporting the needs of both present and future generations while preserving, protecting and developing the rain forest.
I felt good about what we had done because I knew it would matter and I could return in twenty years and see progress.
In the photo I had just finished planting the tree in front of me.
This artefact represent the learning I acquired in ecological studies with an emphasis on sustainability and the necessity to nurture the land because of its value for our lives and our livelihoods. We are all land stewards regardless of where we are in the world at any given time.
This is a research report I prepared about the geological features at Black Canyon, USA and its connection to both the adventure and nature tourism industries . It reflects my understanding of the natural processes that shaped the earth and the natural environment
